Nonequilibrium thermodynamics analysis of the process of carbide formation in chromium steel is performed. In Onsager equations for the model thermodynamic system, the crossed factors, driving forces, and flows are calculated. The sizes of carbides formed in chromium steel during tempering are estimated.
