A new method and technologies for improving the contact strength of tribosystems in the rolling friction with use an integrated technological process of hardening the ‘coating–base’ composition are introduced. This includes the non-hydrogen ion-nitridation, thermal activation of the nitrided layers in order to optimize their properties, and the following thermal treatment to increase a substrate hardness. The physico-mechanical and tribological properties of the diffusion coating are investigated depending on technological regimes of ion-nitridation and thermal activation within the scope of nitroquenching and oxynitroquenching technologies. Optimal properties of coverage and base are determined according to criteria of maximal contact endurance.
Key words: ion-nitridation, thermal activation, nitroquenching, oxynitroquenching, contact endurance, coating, base.
