The process of chip deformation during non-free cutting is considered. The systems of equations developed on the base of the hyperbola method are presented. They describe the spatial fields of the velocities of particle displacements around both the cutter and the abrasive grain. The order of mathematical operations is expounded that allow to finding important physical quantities characterizing the deformed state of the chip material. The deformed state of the cut layer in two specific cases is analysed—the flow around the cutting plate and the abrasive grain during broaching and plunge grinding, respectively. The calculation results confirmed the validity of the given model representations.
Key words: non-free cutting, plastic deformation, velocity fields, hyperbola method, cutter, abrasive grain.
